About Us
A Little Bit About The Owner.....
As the son of a door contractor, you could say Bernie was born into this business. He is a second generation door contractor who has learned this industry from the ground up. His early training began as a union apprentice Carpenter, followed by a 7-year span
as a journeyman foreman. His skill and expertise grew from running a variety of jobs that included several luxury hotels, an aerospace building, and numerous downtown
high-rise projects.
Further career training promoted Bernie into an outside sales position. This opportunity was quite unique, in that he was arguably the first person selling the concept of the Total Opening Package. It was the first time a commercial door contractor would package hollow metal, wood doors, finish hardware, and labor into one contract.TheĀ concept caught on very quickly, and is still considered very advantageous by most general contractors.
Bernie went from outside sales to estimator, then project manager, resulting in advancement to operations manager of a company with annual sales exceeding $20 million. At every level he received his training from seasoned veterans considered the best in the industry. That background coupled with his 20 years of leadership experience working in a similar family business stirred his entrepreneurial spirit. Those experiences associated him with well-known projects, such as the New Getty Museum, Disney's renovation of Angel Stadium, the Las Vegas MGM and Flamingo Hilton hotels & casinos. All this knowledge with growing maturity and reputation provided the impetus to successfully start his own business.
The Beginning of G & G Door Products
Bernie Gabel founded G&G Door Products in 1995. Rockwell International helped launch this new venture when they requested that Bernie design and produce a heavy-duty grade stainless steel pass-thru door assembly with electric interlocking capability for their semi-conductor manufacturing plant. That product now carries U.S. patent #5,921,591, and can be used in any clean room type facility. From that customized starting project, G&G Door Products has specialized in completing complicated projects that require custom solutions to unique door and hardware challenges.
In His Own Words:
I have witnessed and been a part of so much change in this industry. The last 30 years we have seen a revolution in the types of products available: how we order those products, the development of new code requirements, as well as the relatedĀ new agencies that administer and inspect our products and services.
Bernie added, "When I first started in this career, wood doors were completely machined in the field by the installer. Electrified hardware was just being introduced by way of the electric bolt lock. Computers and faxes had not been introduced yet"!
Where We Are and Where We're Headed
Today we engineer all of our material orders and allow the factories to perform all the essential requirements that previously were performed in the field. If we have done our job correctly, the only power tools necessary for installation will be a drill motor, and screw gun. Customers benefit from knowing their job will be done right and not have the hassle or worry of additional coordination between subcontractors.
Technology has impacted all aspects of our business throughout the industry. Almost every aspect of our office work is now performed much more efficiently using computers. Electrical hardware innovations have produced an abundant offering of new plug in products, now very common in the door and door hardware industry. At G & G Door Products we provide ongoing training and supervision to bring our customers the current innovative and reliable service they can depend on.
Tomorrow's door assemblies will be manufactured using materials with a greater recyclable content, toxic free, and created from sustainable raw materials that places greater emphasis on distance to point of origin. The emerging influence of the ecological Green movement will also change how we conduct business - from paperless documents to the electronic viewing of all blueprints. Technologies have produced such amazing things as wireless Wi-Fi smart locks, biometric readers, Internet enabled switching, and antimicrobial coatings. These new products will become a staple in our industry and allow end users to more effectively control the health and safety of their occupants. Here at G & G Door Products we plan to keep pace with technology and innovation to service our clients with the very best ideas and solutions.
